The digital switchover is happening throughout the United Kingdom, and will be finally complete during 2012, where the analogue signal will be switched off.


Some areas are already receiving the improved digital transmission, and can benefit from an increased variety of digital TV channels with greater picture and audio quality.


The Freeview and Freeview+ services offer an extensive line-up of channels, all of which are free. There are currently 48 TV channels and 24 radio channels, all available without subscription.


All you need to start receiving the digital service is a suitable TV aerial installation. You will need to make sure that your TV is digital compatible.


This is fairly simple to ensure as it is indicated by the 'Digital tick'. You do not need to replace your TV sets but if they are not digital-friendly then you will need a Freeview set top receiver box or a TV aerial installation.


Freeview HD is now also available through your TV aerial.
